Variety
Variety is the spice of life, but for someone who gets bored quickly, variety in art practice is essential. So I draw, paint (in a variety of mediums), collage, print, and do mixed media work in a variety of styles too.
The coffee grinder is a realistic drawing, while Notes is an abstract/impressionistic painting done in oil. Sun printing is fun, and I still want to do cyanotype sun printing. I used one of the sun printed butterflies in the collage image of post R (for Recycle).

The same goes for my writing: I write novels and short stories, in different genres from contemporary to science fiction, and fantasy. And also mixed them up, especially in the new Lords of the High Council sub-series which is a mix of action, supernatural, fantasy, science fiction, religion and romance. (Note: my books are adults only)
How do you add variety to your creative activities?
Linze' I like how you mix it up with your artwork. I use different colored paper for background, I try different sizes (usu 5"x8" or 8.5"x11".) Ive crumpled paper and used it for texture. I have bought art books at library sales, which are great for changing things up in collage. I bought a very large book of maps and have used them as background.
ReplyDeleteCrumpled paper sound like something I could try - love learning new things. I so want a map book, but even secondhand they are really expensive here, so I just enjoy the art made by others. Enjoy!
DeleteIt gets boring only doing one thing over and over. Of course you'd want to mix it up.
ReplyDeleteI agree. 😊 Also the reason I love my job, no two days are the same.
DeleteI LOVE the Sunprinting!! Amazing!!

Hi Lenni, I cannot take credit for the sun printing technique, but it was surprisingly easy - and I want to do it again, when the sun comes out again. We have such weird weather right now, that it will probably be a while 😏😂
DeleteUntil today, I knew nothing of sun printing. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI paint (watercolor) sometimes and am learning the cello. I keep returning to writing though. It's my favorite.
Learning the cello is super cool, Lori. I only learned about sun printing a few months ago, and printing with turmeric was super easy. I love writing too. Even though the book I mentioned is done, I am already working on the next one. Can't seem to help myself. 😂 Thank you visiting my blog today!
